volume two is about knowing, loving, and following the shepherd king. the goal is always to know him more intimately, to love him more intensely, and to follow him more closely. we cultivate this nearness through steady surrender. as we hand over our whole selves — mind, body, spirit, soul— we find that our deepest desires are met in him. he is the only king worth following, he is always accessible, and we can behold him here and now. walk with him and work with him — see how he does it. learn these unforced rhythms of grace. 

volume one is all about lived-in presence; the bread and wine of sacramental living. he is in all things, and holds all things together. every place is sacred, every moment holy. each particular suffering leads to glory, and every longing has a space. the tensions are where he meets us and transforms us. when we bring our true selves, we find that he has been steadily nourishing us and maintaining his covenant love.
